Digital assets sit at the intersection of technology, monetary theory and speculative behavior. For educational purposes, the important distinction is between spot trading — where the trader takes actual delivery of the coin — and derivative exposure through CFDs or perpetual futures, which is the model most commonly offered inside multi-asset environments such as IFCM Invest.

Volatility Is a Feature, Not a Flaw

Bitcoin's realized volatility routinely runs three to five times that of major fiat pairs, and altcoins routinely exceed that. Volatility creates opportunity and destroys undercapitalized positions with equal efficiency. Position sizing rules that work on EUR/USD may be dangerously aggressive when transplanted to a mid-cap crypto pair without adjustment.

Custody and Counterparty Risk

A recurring source of retail losses is confusion between custodial exposure and market exposure. When trading a crypto CFD, the counterparty risk is the platform itself. When trading spot on an exchange, the counterparty risk is the exchange's operational security. Neither is trivial, and independent research should treat them separately.

Execution Quality

Crypto markets are fragmented across dozens of venues, and the price a retail trader sees on any single platform is an aggregation. Slippage during high-volatility events can be severe. Continue with our review of IFCM Invest for the platform-specific angle and our risk management primer for the sizing discipline that keeps crypto exposure survivable.
